DSL sector begins look at VDSL2, ADSL2 interaction

| GENEVA, Switzerland " After ending a long-lasting line-code battle by adopting the discrete multitone technology (DMT) for the emerging VDLS2 spec, members of the DSL sector are now shifting their thoughts toward new features being integrated in to VDSL2 and starting to field discussions over how the emerging VDSL2 may eventually compete against ADSL2 or ADSL2+. On one hand, ADSL2 and ADSL2 plus push the downlink performance of an ADSL2/ADSL2+ pushed downlink performance from 6 Mbit/s into the 24-Mbit/s range while also moving reach into the 18K to 20K feet range (although at these distances the systems do not deliver full 24 Mbit/s downlink performance). VDSL, n the other hand, can theoretically deliver a peak downlink bandwidth of 50-Mbit/s at much shorter distances (less than 5000 feet). However in real-life deployments, carriers are typically delivering VDSL downlink connections in the mid-20-Mbit/s range. Read more -here- | |
