Disney announces price hike for Disney+ and Hulu, crackdown on password sharing2023-08-09 19:13 by DanielaTags: Disney, Hulu, password sharing
Disney is shaking up its portfolio of streaming services starting next month. The company announced today that it would increase the pricing for ad-free Disney+ and Hulu while also saying that it is "actively exploring" ways to crack down on password sharing, similar to what Netflix recently implemented. The ad-free Disney+ plan will be priced at $13.99 per month, while the ad-free Hulu plan will be priced at $17.99 per month. Right now, ad-free Disney+ is $10.99 per month, while ad-free Hulu is priced at $14.99 per month. When Disney+ launched three years ago, Disney was charging $6.99, so the price for ad-free access has more than doubled. The company will roll out tactics to mitigate password sharing in 2024. When asked how many people are sharing passwords across Disney's services, CEO Bob Iger declined to provide a number but said it's "significant." He also added that the company has the "technical capability" to monitor sign-ins and that the company plans to "get at this issue" in 2024. The move comes as Disney and its peers have looked for ways to make streaming profitable — methods that have included cutting content spending, introducing cheaper, ad-supported options and preventing account sharing. Disney follows the lead of Netflix, which began rolling out a new account sharing policy earlier this year. Read more -here-
