CES 2023: MagSafe-like charging is coming to Android phones this year2023-01-04 14:31 by DanielaTags: CES 2023, MagSafe, Android, Apple, WPC
The Wireless Power Consortium (WPC) announced a new standard for wireless charging called Qi2 during CES 2023.It is aimed at smartphones and wearables and is built on Apple's MagSafe charging technology. So it's likely that devices compatible with the Qi2 standard will work with both Android and iOS-based devices. The consortium is attempting to cut e-waste, reduce wireless charging power loss, and address confusion among consumers about what is a certified wireless charging accessory. The WPC says that the Magnetic Power Profile in Qi2 will make sure that phones and other battery-powered mobile products are perfectly aligned with chargers for improved energy efficiency and faster charging. Qi2 will allow for new accessories that would not be chargeable using existing flat surface-to-flat surface devices. The Qi2 standard will debut later this year, and it will replace the current Qi standard. Qi2 smartphones and chargers are expected to be available starting in the 2023 holiday season.
