Earlier this morning the website of the electronics retailer Best Buy went offline and displayed a "We're Sorry, currently unavailable. Check back soon" message. This wouldn't be such a surprise if today wasn't Black Friday, typically one of the busiest shopping days of the year. The outage continued for about an hour and the site came back online at around 11:30 a.m. ET.

"A concentrated spike in mobile traffic triggered issues that led us to shut down in order to take proactive measures to restore full performance," said spokeswoman Amy von Walter. "Our consumers can return to in the next several hours to take advantage of today's door busters."

Online sales are important for Best Buy, as more and more people prefer to buy goods in the comfort of their homes. This business marks nearly 20% growth in the U.S. for the fiscal year ended February 1.

The outage would likely cost the company hundreds of thousands of dollars, especially because of the fact that consumer electronics are among the best-sellers for Black Friday, as consumers expect the shopping day to replace TVs, tablets and smartphones.
