Following a similar announcement with Verizon, Samsung will also offer a 5G smartphone for AT&T during the first half of 2019, and AT&T's mobile 5G network is now expected to start service "before the end of 2018."

The phone will be the second 5G-capable device on AT&T's network, alongside the mmWave Netgear Nighthawk 5G Mobile Hotspot, which should be coming out later this month. Both devices will feature Qualcomm's Snapdragon X50 5G modem.

As for the Samsung phone in question, details on it are still slim. Samsung is reportedly working on a limited 5G variant of its upcoming Galaxy S10 as well as a supersized 6.7-inch "Beyond X" model to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Galaxy line of phones that would also feature support for 5G, so there’s no shortage of options.

AT&T has been deploying 5G zones around the country lately. The company also plans to launch its 5G service in 12 markets by the end of 2018, and in another seven markets in the first half of 2019.
