AT&T confirmed today that it will cut down its text-messaging service plans, offering customers either unlimited messages for a flat monthly fee, or a pay-per-text service.

"We regularly evaluate our offers and are making some adjustments to our messaging lineup. The vast majority of our messaging customers prefer unlimited plans," an AT&T spokesman said in a statement. "With text messaging growth stronger than ever, that number continues to climb among new customers."

Users who don't want to get into a plan can opt to pay 20 cents per SMS, or 30 cents per message when sending pictures or video. Current customers who subscribe to AT&T's 1,000-message plan will continue to pay $10 per month for the option.
