AT&T Plans to Buy AWS Spectrum from CableOne

According to an FCC notice, released Thursday, AT&T intends to buy advanced wireless spectrum (AWS) from cable MSO Cable One that it could use to expand its LTE network. The value of the transaction is not announced yet.

"The applicants assert that the proposed assignment would serve the public interest because it would enable AT&T to increase its system capacity to enhance existing services, better accommodate its overall growth, and facilitate the provision of additional products and services to the public in the geographic areas authorized under the licenses," the FCC said in its public notice.

In the past few years, AT&T has struck more than 45 different spectrum deals. The commission set a deadline of Feb. 20 for parties that oppose the transaction to file petitions.
