AT&T considers $16-$17-a-month streaming service

Media and telecom giant AT&T Inc. is considering a $16-to-$17-a-month streaming video package that includes most of its entertainment properties, according to report from The Wall Street Journal.

The new tier would combine HBO, Cinemax, and Warner Bros.' television shows and film library into one service. WarnerMedia's new subscription service will go through a "beta" run later this year, with March 2020 the target date for the service to be fully operational.

WarnerMedia is also considering a less expensive ad-supported version of the service sometime in 2020. Previously, Jeff Stankey, the CEO of WarnerMedia, announced that AT&T’s streaming video service would have three different price tiers. So with this report, we're down to possibly two tiers. Or maybe it will just be one.

It's unlikely that AT&T's streaming service will be an adequate replacement for Netflix, given the latter's litany of original content. But if you're a subscriber to another streaming service like Hulu (which also offers HBO and Cinemax subscriptions) or CBS All Access, AT&T's offerings may be worth a look.
