AT&T adds 61-cent 'mobility' fee to wireless bills2013-05-24 09:17 by DanielaTags: AT&T
AT&T has introduced a new "Mobility Administrative Fee" to its postpaid contracts. The new fee which went into effect May 1, applies to consumer and Individual Responsibility User (IRU) lines. The "below the line" fee appears with taxes and other surcharges at the bottom of a customer's phone bill, below the service charges. Even though this doesn't sound like much, The Wall Street Journal reports that the fee could "bring in more than a half-billion dollars in annual revenue to the telecom giant." Other carriers also have so-called "below-the-line" fees, named that because they frequently appear at the bottom of the phone bill after the service charges. AT&T commented that the administrative fee will "help cover certain expenses, such as interconnection and cell site rents and maintenance." It also added that the charge is "consistent with similar fees charged by other carriers." Read more -here-
