Apple servers hacked by a teenager

An Australian 16 years old high-school student hacked into Apple servers, downloading 90GB of supposedly "secure" files and may have accessed customer accounts. The hacker broke into the servers repeatedly using "authorized keys" which grant log-in access to users.

After detecting the unauthorized access, Apple reported it to the FBI, which launched an investigation with the cooperation with the Australian Federal Police (AFP). The teen who was reportedly an Apple fan is said to be well known in the hacking community, however cannot be named for legal reasons. He used VPNs and other tools to avoid being traced, however Apple's systems logged teh serial numbers of the Mac Books used to carry out the attacks. The authorities seized two apple laptops, a mobile phone and a hard drive with the downloaded material in a folder amusingly titled "hacky hack hack."

The teen's lawyer pleaded that the boy carried out the attacks because "he was such a fan of the company" and hoped to work there, a prospect that may now seem unlikely, after he pleaded guilty and is awaiting sentencing.
