Apple finally confirms it is working on self-driving car technology

In a recent inteview with Bloomberg, Apple CEO Tim Cook has for the first time confirmed that the company has been working on the "autonomous systems" behind driverless cars.

"We're focusing on autonomous systems. And clearly, one purpose of autonomous systems are self-driving cars. There are others," Cook said.

"And we sort of see it as the mother of all AI projects. It's probably one of the most difficult AI projects actually to work on and so autonomy is something that's incredibly exciting for us, but we'll see where it takes us."

While it's unclear if and when Apple's technology will be on the road, the company has already been testing its systems in public areas. The iPhone maker obtained a permit in April to try out three driverless SUVs on California streets.
