Andy Rubin, the founder of Android, has announced a new phone, that will take on Apple's iPhone and Samsung's Galaxy series. The phone, called Essential, is a product of the new company that Rubin launched.

The idea behind the phone is to ship phones without unnecessary junk, such as a ton of extraneous software loaded on to slow the phone down. It runs the Android operating system andĀ features a Qualcomm 835 processor, 4GB of RAM, and 128GB of storage.

The handset is expected to shake up the mobile space with a bold design, a big bezel-free screen and modular features. All of the modules, including the 360-degree camera, attach to the back of the phone via a magnetic "accessory bus" that use the USB 3.0 standard. All accessories will draw power from the phone's battery, meaning users won't have to charge their accessories separately.

At first, Essential is launching the phone in the US for $699. It will be compatible with all major carriers.
