American Airlines gives 30 minutes of in-flight TikTok for free2021-08-05 16:00 by Daniela
American Airlines has announced it is now the only commercial air travel company to offer all customers free access to TikTok. The airline points out that TikTok is more than dance videos for passengers to watch while on a flight with all manner of content, including travel inspiration videos, details on locations to explore at their destination, and travel tips. Passengers traveling on any narrowbody aircraft fitted with Viasat equipment can access TikTok without purchasing in-flight Wi-Fi.
Customers will be able to log into their TikTok accounts by enabling airplane mode, connecting to the "AA-Inflight" signal and selecting the TikTok ad for free access in the Wi-Fi portal. Once logged in to TikTok, customers can search for popular video creators, their favorite topics or even hashtags like #travel, #traveltips, or #traveltheworld to view related video content for travel and adventure enthusiasts. For those who do not have an account on the platform, American Airlines is also allowing travelers to download the app inflight, free of charge.
After 30 minutes of videos, users will be relegated to American's library of free in-flight entertainment, including over 600 movies and TV shows, as well as educational tools from partners like Rosetta Stone and Skillshare. The airline, which in 2019 rolled out satellite-based broadband and Wi-Fi to its entire mainline narrowbody fleet, also provides free Apple Music streaming.
"Faster Wi-Fi allows us to deliver diverse inflight entertainment options and invest in innovative partnerships with platforms like TikTok," AA Managing Director of Premium Customer Experience and Onboard Products Clarissa Sebastian said in the statement. "Customers play the lead role in helping us better understand what content they want during their inflight experience and TikTok is one of the platforms they love on the ground."
