Amazon is reportedly working on a wearable device that will be able to recognize human emotions from a voice. The wrist-worn gadget is described as a health and wellness product. The Alexa team is said to be working with Lab126 - the group that created Amazon's Echo smart speakers on the project.

There's reportedly a beta test underway. The device, working in sync with a smartphone app, is said to have microphones that can "discern the wearer's emotional state from the sound of his or her voice."

On Tuesday, Amazon Alexa senior applied scientist Viktor Rozgic revealed more information about how the company is training artificial intelligence to recognize voice emotion.

"Emotion recognition has a wide range of applications: It can aid in health monitoring; it can make conversational-AI systems more engaging; and it can provide implicit customer feedback that could help voice agents like Alexa learn from their mistakes," Rozgic wrote.

It's not clear yet if the wearable will turn into a real device one day or will it just remain a research project.
