Web application company Akamai have released their report, concerning the state of the Internet for the first quarter of 2011. The company uses various metrics including penetration, geography, and type of connectivity to produce a 'status' of the Internet within countries around the world. Akamai found out over 584 million unique IP addresses, 5.2% more than in the fourth quarter of 2010 and 20% higher than the first quarter of 2009. They estimate that there are over one billion web users globally. According to the report, the average global connection speeds register a near 10% increase compared with the last quarter of 2010. The global average speed is now 2.1Mbps. The Top 10 of average maximum connection speeds is lead by Hong Kong (39.5 Mbps) and South Korea (36.3 Mbps). Read more -here-
