We have the same deal here we use Aventail for our VPN soultion.

The slow down is at Aventails' sight in our case your adding their network to the mix.

Another thing might be most cable providers throttle the up stream side of the connection this might also account for his slow rates

Take a look and let me know, I sure have no use for it.

I'm hoping to get back some of the cash I paid for the server.

It's listed on Ebay now. Item # 1321222703

Have you tried disabling the DHCP on the server and enabling it on the router to rule out a server configuration problem?

Are your 9X machines set to login to the NT domain?
(Example: a 3 line login box Name, Password, Domain)
Are they logging into the right domain?

Watch your cable length 100 Meter (330FT) max....

Hubs do not allow full duplex operation. Routers and Switches will allow full duplex effectively doubling your bandwidth.

Also make sure to use 100 base T equipment.

If your using a 10 base T hub your really shooting yourself in the foot.

Yes you could use internet connection sharing but it would require the "gateway" computer to be on at all times for the second one to work and 2 NIC's in the "gateway" machine.

I'm not even going to try and explain how to set it up here. It can be a pain.

The router would allow them to work ...

Boot Magic will allow you to choose which OS you boot to.

It is or was included with Partition Magic which will let you move the data from partition to partition and resize them on the fly without data loss.

Boot Magic works like LILO does for you Linux fans out there.

About $55 bucks on line.

There is a setting the configuration of the router to make it a DHCP client and not the Host.

I agree with Ken, a switch would have been a cheaper and easier way to do it.

Changing it to a DHCP client should solve your problems though.
