I recently (upgraded) to a microsoft Force Feedback 2 joystick. I was using a logitech force 3d and getting 35 to 40 fps playing RedBaron 3d. When I switched to the FF2 it cut my frames to 15 to 25 fps with ff activated! Whats up with that? With FF off I get my usual 35 to 40 fps.

Is there any settings I can make on my video card to get better fps with this new stick? I pretty much have it set at defaults for performance. Or, Is there a patch or something available for this problem?
Thx in advance, Coastie
1/2 the frame rates w/FF2 joystick?

Gforce sucks too!
Hey ya little punk. If you arent going to give logical advice, just keep it to yourself. I did try a geforce mx400 before the radeon and got even worse fps. I believe it is a compatability issue with my stock (off the shelf) computer. The bios or motherboard just doesnt allow me to get max performance out of my cards. Since you are the say all end all on the best video cards, why dont you go get a job making the geforce cards so you can be with them all the time?

You are missing the point!
You obviously have a independent system which allows you to Tweak your computer to get the most out of it. I don't know what type of computer your friend has either. I ran Max Payne at max settings and it was flawless. I don't know what my frame rate was because I didnt know how to read it on that game.
My point is not what card is the best anyway. I just want to know if anyone has had a problem with the Force Feedback 2 joystick killing their frame rates with the FF on.
Can someone intelligent please help me with this?
Thx, Coastie

I think your over looking something.....Your FPS "OK" before you added the new joystick....Its not your Video cards fault at least not directly....Did you change from a old style Joystick port to a USB connection?? If so the Video card and USB port may be sharing the same IRQ and the drivers are fighting for control... Even if it is the same connection this can happen....Try updating the drivers for the Joystick if they have any new ones out yet, reinstall/ update Direct-X, update your video card drivers....
While I cant say I agree with his way of saying it, to a small degree I agree with erogic1, ATI's drivers are lacking when it comes to compatablity issues and you may be seeing that happening here. They make decent hardware if they would only hire some good codesmiths.
I have an ATI All-in Wonder Pro that they will not (cannot?) support in XP...It was a great card for video editing, etc. and I will miss it.

Done all of the above
Mudbug, Ty for the reply. Like I said before, I tried a Geforce mx-400 before the radeon and had slightly worse frame rates with it than the radeon. I changed from a logitech wingman force 3d to the microsoft FF2. Same usb type connection in both. All updated drivers for card and stick. I did find out that the problem only seems to be in the game i am playing. (Red Baron 3d). It seems to be a compatability issue with the game and the FF2 software. (its an old game but still awesome).
I still believe it is my system that wont allow me to use my video cards to the fullest potential. These proprietary systems are very difficult for add-ons sometimes.

Im sure you right they do not want you tweaking bios and clock speeds...Have you checked the game maker for updates?
