How to get help from AT&T BI

I've had a huge problem lately with latency. Basically, thanks to the help of a friendly tech who didn't charge me for a visit, we discovered that the default gateway I'm assigned is just plain overloaded at anything other than non-peak times.

My friend on AT&T two towns over can tracert to Yahoo ...

Fluctuating Pings in online games driving me nuts

Up until a few weeks ago my online connection speeds as far as GAMES were concerned were great.

As an example, playing DAY OF DEFEAT online using the Half Life server browser built into the game, I'd routinely connect to games and my ping times would normally fluctuate between the 30's and the 100 ...

I just used the "optimal" setting for Cable, and immediately my downlodas went back up to 175K and my pings in HalfLife were down in the 40's.

WOOOOOOOOOOO! THANK YOU!!!

MTU = 1500
MTU is fully optimized for broadband.

MSS = 1460
Maximum useful data in each packet = 1460, which equals MSS.

I ran the analyzer....is this the normal result for those of us on AT&T BI?

bandwidth * delay product:
Your RcvWindow limits you to: 350.4 kbps (43.8 KBytes/s) @ 200ms
Your RcvWindow limits you to: 140.16 kbps (17.52 KBytes/s) @ 500ms
Consider increasing your RWIN value to optimize TCP/IP for ...

AT&T Connecticut: My Speeds have tanked! :(

Anyone else experiencing the same problem?

AT&T Cable in Connecticut....used to get 180K transfers or so, so figured I was getting most of the 1.5Mbit bandwith they capped us all at...........

My online game ping times were in the 40's to mid 100's depending on the server, etc.

Now, however, for ...

The Mac address, eh?

So that means AT&T decides wether or not to let me into their network based off the hardware address of my Cable Modem?

Question: ATTBI and correct PC/Router setup.

Very simply, I've had @home and now ATTBI for more than a year...used to be REALLY HAPPY (with 500KByte downloads on average), but I'm still satisfied with the 1.5mbit (190Kbyte) cap....but....admittledy...not REAL happy.

However, all this talk now about NAT and ATTBI trying to wave a magic wand so ...

The best I ever got was downloading on a tweaked @HOME connection here in CT was 980KBytes down via HTTP, sustained.

I was downloading a database application off-hours from a vendors site in CA, and when I saw the speed...the 40 meg demo took like...20 seconds.

Now, thanks to AT&T, I get my 1.5 ...

1.5/8 right?

I'm still not seeing anywhere near those speeds, which I just don't understand... :(

Fellow AT&T Users: How fast can we go?

Ok, I downloaded Cablenut and changed my settings again. Hahahahahaha....*sigh*, well I had to try right?

Locked at 65550 (or whatever the value is)..says my downloads are limited to 382kb/s (or something like that).

And yet the best, and I mean best, I have been able to get is 142K....I had a ...

Whats a realistic speed peak hours?

I did some tweakig and on one download test last night about 10:30 I hit 650K, although that dropped down towards the last minute of the download.

Tonite I can only get about 350 on that same download..I've tried a few changes of the Rwin value....currently have it at 373360, but last nights ...

Try these steps:
Check to see which BIOS your Linksys Router is running. THe newest one can be downloaded from the Linksys website, this allows you to set the MTU speed for the ROUTER at 1500. WIthout this bios upgrade your Router is a bottleneck.

I know because just last night I was doing speed ...

Ya, I understand thats what can be "allowed"......kinda like back in the old HST days of USR modems....you'd never hit 16.8, but it was nice that it was available to go that fast.

Ultimately I just wanted to open up my pipe as much as my local conditions will allow. I'll go through the tweaks ...

Forgive the intrustion...I've been on broadband for about half a year..and since my downloads average about 80K to 150K, I figured I was "Fine"......then my buddy with DSl told me he is usually around 500K down, and has had downloads as fast as 1.2mbps.

SO I wandered over here and took a look at ...
