I like to hang out at Avantiville, which has branched out to three T1 servers and renamed to theVille since they run more than just the avanti map now. The guy who started it tweaks his maps a little to suit the regular crowd, but its all on the server side, so no long download. The servers have ...

Been having the same problem lately Kenny. If you have your setup going through a router (not software or slow hub) and can't improve speeds there, it is probably the ISP. Someone on another forum here just explained with cable one of your neighbors can screw up your speeds by setting up a server ...

I'm no expert, but it sounds like you have some connection problems completely outside of HalfLife. I don't know if your router setup is causing your trouble or your ISP connection itself is to blame. There are better diagnosticians than me that read this site, so post some specifics and maybe they ...

Just in case cash is short, you can go with a joystick without Force Feedback and get the smooth control you need. I got a Logitech Wingman Extreme 3D with a throttle and 8 buttons, USB or gameport for like $30.00. Force Feedback makes you feel the plane fighting you in turbulence or whatever ...

Road Runner Cable Service decline in speed and reliability
I am in Herndon, Virginia and use Cox/Road Runner cable modem service. Up til now, I have been pretty happy with it. At the time I signed up you had to sign a year or two contract to get DSL, plus I have no phone line on that floor of the house. (I know the wiring is easy to do, it's the drilling a ...

I am facing a similar decision with my cable service, with the added problem of the cable connection cutting out regularly without warning only to reestablish itself moments later. I guess what I am wondering is what monthly dollar figure people think the break point is for being too much rent? I ...

That was less than helpful to the guy Yard.
Ajax, the reason you took 20 minutes to connect was CS was downloading a map you didn't have on your system. FYI the downloads this way, even with a broadband connection take way too long. Go to fileplanet or someplace and get them there instead, before ...

I love TFC! I got into CS pretty good for a while, but then discovered Avantiville. Its a TFC server that runs mostly Avanti (one of my favorite maps) on a t1 line and they post the stats of any player that plays on it during a given week. They keep running totals and stats ...

I found your statement, about the human eye only being able to perceive 30fps, interesting. It seemed to me to ring true compared to other things I'd heard, but false when I think of the science and my own personal observations.

This is the best reason I've heard yet for buying Q3. I only have HL now and with TFC and CS being my favorite games, I didn't see the point of buying Q3. I got the free demo, but didn't think the gameplay as good as my faves. But those screen shots look sweet! Hmmm... how much spending ...

I used to be a segment producer for a television program(I just love saying that, even though it was years ago and I'm just a lowly programmer now) and I remember that video was 30 frames a second. Also, when you set your monitor refresh to around 60-65 you can see flicker if you look just off to ...

Others may disagree with me on this, but I think your best value is looking for HalfLife Game of the Year Edition. CompUSA around here had it on sale for ten bucks recently (with a rebate I think). I bought this 2 years ago (or so)and it has all you need to download and run TFC, CS, DoD, Action HL ...

Thanks for that link, that gave me enough to try something out and it worked. I can now get server listings without locking up my router with multiple pings. However, I had to put my PCs ip routing address in there, doesn't that leave my whole pc outside the firewall protection of the NAT router ...

Need info on setting up DMZ HalfLife
I posted a question about this before, but I think a poor choice of words made everybody think I was looking for someone to DO this for me. But I just want to figure out how to control the multiple pings sent out by Half Life server listing. And maybe learn a little about setting up a CS or TFC ...

Y'know I read somewhere that HalfLife only allows you to join an online game from multiple computers in LAN if all computers have different HalfLife CDkey numbers.

Looking for resources to learn how to setup HalfLife Server
I'm a major newbie to Networking. Was as proud as a new papa when I got my SMC Barricade sharing the cable modem access with my wife's PC and mine. But I have had some trouble with the multiple pings sent out by HalfLife and have not yet figured out how to set up a server in DMZ or any other way ...
