so, my local cable company (Cox, ie.. ****s)will be offering digital cable internet access in about 2 months. I was wondering, do you think that this will be subject to peak time lag just like "normal" cable, cuz i had normal crap cable b4 i got my adsl and it sucked. They say it will be 1.5 down ...

i didnt know i could assign 4 megs of ram to the nic cards! hmmm... how the hell do i do that? i am not plagued by packet loss at all when on one computer. So you are saying that i should do some dslreports tests while on both computers ...

perhaps... but the lag happens regardless of whether both computers try to access the SAME Unreal Tournament server or not, it happens when both are on different servers also... and it doesnt seem to be any worse IF both are connected to the same server compared to the lag if on different servers ...

my dsl is great for 1 connection gaming.. albeit im probably 10-20 ms behind most other dsl providers cuz of the microwave thing.

well, maybe... but my connection is rock solid and steady with NO timeouts with one computer. i think my pings may be a little high compared to other adsl providers because of it (100 ms or so)... but why would 2 connects over the line cause the signal to be lagged/latent?

yes. i already have a netgear 314 router, and i thought it was supposed to do the trick. someone posted in another thread that i should get a hub if i had another 40 bucks to spend, and that would split the line in half and maybe get rid of the spikes cuz maybe both computers are trying to hog the ...

well, i have the same problem with a netgear 314 and 2 computers trying to play online simultaneously. pac bell 1 dynamic ip, 1200 down, 105 up. someone know why this happens? and why would a computer acting as a gateway perform better than a router? i dont understand. i dont even know why people ...

wut would you say the minimum upload per connection would have to be.. ive talked to other people who say it works and they see no ping change.. ofcourse, there is a big difference in upload speeds from different providers..
