Post by SheepThriLL »

replaced my linksys with netgear router

but i still cant play unreal tournament with 2 computers simultaneously. pac bell dynamic 1200 up 105 down. rock steady sub 120 ping with one computer online like b4 router. crapola ping spikes and lag with 2 computers.why why why why why???? ive tried adjusting netspeeds. nothing works.

arent there people out there who are sharing a broadband connection? am i wrong? i can see them... 5 computers online, happy faces, fraggin away, all with no lag and sub 150 ping. DAMAT

this was prolly a year and a half ago and we mostly only played starcraft and some halflife but me and my roommate shared a cable connection with no router just a hub. We had very similar pings playing the same game so i think something is wrong with your isp dude. If you have them set up right they should be able to play simeultaisaly with no problem. Pacbell isnt a very good isp from my experience with them so.

I have aDSL, I've had a Linksys, NetGear, and currently Netopia router. I can say I've played with 2 and 3 computers on my LAN, out through all the above routers, on the same UT server, with pings below 100. 2 computers with pings below 50.

Yet a while ago I brough a Linksys to my friend who had cable, and we couldn't do it without his pings going through the roof.

It's gotta be the way your ISP handles things.

any way to find out if that is the case?

i went to the main office to drop off map for work yesterday, and went inside the big routing building. Asked the guy about dsl, blabber blabber, and he tells me that there is no pipeline going out of this county, that the dsl here is MICROWAVED out! well, this shouldnt make a difference, just thought it was interesting.

in the previous post, did you have a dynamic IP? should this matter, cuz i do.

Static or dynamic IP...has nothing to do at all with your performance.

Microwave out eh? Hmmmm....frequent timeouts....microwave out....hmmmmm......I don't think we have to pursue what the reason is any longer.

You on some island or something?

well, maybe... but my connection is rock solid and steady with NO timeouts with one computer. i think my pings may be a little high compared to other adsl providers because of it (100 ms or so)... but why would 2 connects over the line cause the signal to be lagged/latent?

make sense?
