ping spikes with ADSL? WHY?????????

Post by SheepThriLL »

well, its coming up on the 30 day limit to return this 4 port linksys router. I cant get a good connection for 2 computers simultaneiously to play Unreal Tournament. I have pac bell adsl 1200 down and 105 up (very steady). 95% of the time when both computers are trying to play UT, there are horrible ping spikes ... over 500+ pings for both computers. If only one computer is on (doesnt matter which one) the ping is the same (sub 120 steady, no spikes) as when i used just the modem. I have tried changing the netspeed (by changning connection type to 56k, sdsl, etc... on both computers) this helped, but not enough (56k was best setting). It seems ridiculous that i cant get two consistently good pings off of the connection speed i have. any ideas? two UT addicts with only 1 good connection = bad.

its because each computer is in struggle for bandwidth like one computer will steal the other person's bandwidth and vice versa

its not really bad with one connection, what really matters is the internet connection, dont expect to get the best internet connection or best pings with adsl, if you dont want any ping problems go get sdsl

Whats wrong with ADSL I have almost a 400kbps upload and 200KB/sec down. But I aint tryin to squeze two players onto a game out one the Web either.... More upload/downlod with more bandwidth will give you a better game play If your Subscribed line is small then don't expect allot...

Your LAG might also be the line quality too

Did you upgrade the Firmware that just came out too and I mean just came out for the DSL end of things
