My cable has been pretty bad lately, and i was just wondering if IDSL would give me a decent ping. I was thinking of getting the gamers package through speakeasy. I mostly play at the speakeasy servers, so if i got it through them, would my ping at least be good at those specific severs.

I know in quake setting maxpackets higher will make the game smoother and also makes your ping APPEAR higher. In quake the setting is cl_maxpackets.

I used to have the same problem for like 2 years, was almost unplayable online. Finally I cancelled my cable service, then I reordered it(within the same week). They gave me a new modem and new IP and its been good ever since :)

My friend had the same problem and he just asked for a new modem, and ...

I had the same problem, games were almost unplayable for me. Ask your cable company for a new modem, and they will probably give you a new IP along with it.

This seemed to fix my problem, and a few other I know :P

I used to have the same problem, ping was just horrible. I stopped paying my @home bill for 8 months and they finally terminated my account. When I called them to have it hooked back up, new ip's, modem blah blah, all of sudden it was fixed :) Dunno what it was that fixed it, but maybe you should ...

You should try cable first, as long as your area doesnt suck like mine, you should get around a 50 ping. Otherwise, go with adsl.

My connection is only good between the hours of 2:30am-7:00am Too bad it's the only thing available in my area

Master Server is probably just down for a while. Try using Gamespy, you should be able to get on the servers from there..

I would OWN u in quake

During the day my pings are horrible on every server I try. Between the hours of 2am-7am are the only times when my ping is good 20-50ms.

How would I find out how many people are on my node?

Actually my pings arent horrible, they are usually between 50-125, but the lag spikes are just ridiculous ...

Between the hours of 9am-1am my ping in quake goes anywhere from 50-250 lagging like crazy. People tell me they cant even see my guy on the screen, and i get lots of connection inturupted's. Around 3 in the morning my ping is a constant 30-40. Would this just mean that they have to many people ...
