unstable ping, plz help

Can any thing be done about a ping that spikes up and down all the time?? I find when I'm playing CS my ping goes from 80 to 300 most of the time and is never constant/stable.. Is there anything I can tweak that might solve this problem??

have you installed any patches yet?

whats your OS,ram,speed,etc...

I've installed the SG tweaks/patches:
-VTCP.386 Update
-Win 98_me tweak
-Web page Tweak

My Computer Spec's:
-Win98SE
-256 mb Ram
-PII 500Mhz

Connection:
-@home Cable
-ISP: cogeco

Just ask for a new cable modem. and they will probably give you a new IP also. This fixed the problems i had with ping :P
