Welcome to our New Forums server...

Post by Philip »

If you've noticed, the Bulletin board was moved to a new server this morning ( forums.speedguide.net ). All posts/users were moved successfully.

Please give us feedback about the new forums server, at this point it is in a testing stage, we need to know of any problems you experience with the forums, as well as how well does it perform compared to the main SG server.

This new Forums server is on a completely different connection and location.

All feedback is appreciated :)

Well, already it seems to be moving faster than the previous incarnation...hopefully that's a good sign :)

I'm a bit concerned how well the line will hold under heavy load, other than that the server should handle it much better.

Thanks for the feedback, keep it coming :) ... Oh, ping/traceroute to both the main & forum servers for comparison would be great too, if someone has the time.

Is it me, or are the new posts not being displayed in chronological order on the message listing?

The main SG server is limited at 10MBit, at a Network Center with multiple OC12 backbones to different providers...

The forums server we're testing is on a T1 connection... However, the main problem with the Bulletin Board was Server Load, the CPU couldn't handle all those cgi scripts.

Basically, the new server is on a slower line with a faster CPU, we'll see how well it works in the afternoon I suppose.

We did some tests yesterday, and it seemed to work quite well, however the only real test is to actually move the board and redirect everyone here.

It's another bug, the threads are not in order. Sorry guys, it will be fixed soon.

Besides the bugs in UBB, does the new server seem faster/better than the previous one ?

Yeah, it does seem to be running much faster than the previous version...the replies aren't taking nearly as long to post as they had been before...

Yeehaw. This does seem much smoother and faster then a few days ago.
Finally figured out how to set SG as a "Trusted site" in my security settings so I don't have to change my custom security level 10 times per day. Thanks Ken!
