re: dead motherboard

CPU and motherboard can't be dead because if we reboot after shutting down power, it works ok.
Hey, loop2kill, what does the power phase controller do?

rails?

Ken, I am not familiar with the term "rails". By the way I talked to a fellow with the same problem but different mb and setup. Could this be a cpu problem? It runs fine once it is booted but you must shut down power by total disconnect. Any electrical engineers out there? I was wondering about some ...

boot problems

My son and I had a strange thing happen. His computer was working fine the night before. The next morning he tried to boot and the fans came on but no post beep. After trying new memory and a new power supply, we took the board out of the case and set everything up on my work bench. It booted once ...

bf 1942 and geoforce cards

I convinced a friend that bf1942 was so great. He went out and bought the game. It would not go past the intro screen. He had a geforce 2 64meg card. He went out and bought a Geoforce 4 card.... same thing! He is so fustrated. I can't think of anything but maybe some conflict with his motherboard. I ...

Boy, I guess I stepped in to a big one. I had no idea that irq's could be that cranky! Thanks for the post about which card goes where. I will try that out.

What is with IRQ 9

I just looked at my IRQ's. There is a ton of things allocated to IRQ 9 but no conflicts reporting. I am using Win2k. I thought irq 9 was cascaded to irq 2! Can some explain this.

I originally wanted to change the irq of my NIC but it is grayed out.

modem vs dsl

Is there any relationship between a good modem speed and a good dsl download speed. The reason I ask is when I log on using modem I get sometimes 49-50k... pretty good for my area.
I have a new line all the way to the curb. They have put in a "new box" also. But my dsl (sbc/yahoo) stinks. I have ...

768/128 and it sucks

TCP options string = 020405ac01010402

MTU = 1492
MTU is optimized for PPoE DSL broadband. If not, consider raising MTU to 1500 for optimal throughput.

MSS = 1452
Maximum useful data in each packet = 1452, which equals MSS.
MSS is optimized for PPPoE DSL broadband. If not, consider raising MTU ...

new dsl speed

I just got SBC/yahoo(Pacbell.net) My download should be 768-1.5M. My speeds are 300/100which I think are terrible. I have applied some of the stuff like cablenut. I am running a wintel 516 through a linksys 4 port dsl router. I had a speedstream 5360 connected straight to the computer. I got around ...

It depends what part number

It turns out that there is a known issue with the SpeedStream 5360 part number ending in 002. There is a firmware upgrade for part number ending in 023 but not for 002. On the SpeedStream site they acknowledge the problem. I went and setup using a Westell 516. I also realize that Enternet 300 was ...

What is with SBC and LINKSYS

I just got SBC/Yahoo from PacBell. They gave me a Speedstream 5360. SBC uses PPPOE. They also use Enternet 300. I have no problem connecting directly to the modem. The problem is when I try to use a Linsys 4 port switch (BEFSR41 ver.2). I can't get through the router to the modem. I have used their ...
