If you connect the cable from the wall directly to your computer, can you access the Internet? Com cast is cable, not DSL. You would need a Comcast modem hooked up to that cable.

Information overload! but if all systems GO, it can't be all bad. As you are DSL, you may wish to change MTU to 1490 instead of 1500.

You can use the same SSID but use a different channel. Use channel 1, for example on the router and 11 on the access point.
The router should have DHCP enabled. Disable DHCP on the access point.

The Linksys gets connected to the Belkin from LAN to LAN port. Leave the Internet or WAN port on the Linksys empty.

Before tossing out the Linksys, try flashing it with DD-WRT. Not much to lose and it might just make the difference. Be sure to flash wired, not wireless.

Have you deleted the PPPoE settings on your computer. You needed to set them up in the router and there's no need for them on the computer as well. the internet connection is made by the router - not your computer.

The best and easiest way would be to ask your neighbour for permission to use his connection. He could give you the settings. Otherwise, you may have to wait for your ADSL connection to be back up.

too quick to say all OK
they could ping remote IP's OK but couldn't access the shared folders from the run box: \\192.168.10.10 Reply said path couldn't be found although pinging worked fine.

You have several other options....some of which are:
*Make important machines on a static IP address, and just that IP address from across the tunnel.
*Use host files

I just set up Comcast while in Florida. I had to call the Comcast office to give them the MAC address of my modem. Once they entered that, I rebooted the modem and was on the internet right away.
I wouldn't and didn't install the Comcast software. It's not needed.
