Wireless to Wired ICS?

Post by Sidphoenix »

So heres my issue. I have a laptop that uses a wireless signal from my router to get internet. My desktop doesn't have a wifi card and I want to run ethernet from the laptop to the desktop so the desktop can share the wireless connection. Is there any way I can do this?

So it's: Wireless Router -Wifi-> Laptop -Wired-> Desktop

I hope this makes sense. My laptop runs XP and the desktop is running Windows 7. Both of which shouldn't be an issue.

Shouldn't matter which physical connections you use, just run through the steps to share..

Apparently it's not working for me. When the computers are linked together, both say that the connection is unplugged. Do I NEED a router in order to do this?

When both computers are plugged in to each other, both say that the ethernet is unplugged.

Why not connect the desktop by ethernet cable directly to the router. Why go through the laptop? No need for ICS.
Laptop - wireless
Desktop - wired.
Simpler.

I used to do it.

Wireless Connection on Laptop
ICS on Laptop
Laptop Wired to switch Desktop Wired to switch.

Works best when using the Neighbors wireless.

You say when both computers are plugged together....

Do you mean Cat5 from one comp to another?
If so is it a Crossover Cable?
