Anyone using a 10/1000Mbits card and notice any significant increase in speed ?
I know that it should not have any effect on broadband DSL/Cable, but I would still like to know in real world applications. I notice that 10/100Mbits cards now are going for super duper cheap locally.

 About it...really only useful is there's a jungle and a mess of stuff around it. Else, using quality cables and keeping things neat prevents it in the first place.

Ferrite Core Improves Speed !
It is uncommon and almost unheard of here in North American to slap a ferrite core onto an ethernet cable unlike in Europe, so I did and my speed really shot up. Case in point that EMI/RFI can cause noise to slow down your broadband connections.

When they originally connected my modem to ADSL2, the tech phoned me and said that 512kbs up was the best he could do. I then use their online chat service and they checked my line was able to use that higher speeds and they put in a work order and it was changed in day. Bell is trying to save bits ...

Sympatico Giving it All ?
I recently made a compliant to Sympatico's corporate offices and one of their VPs got into my case and this is the result. They re did my profile 3 times since Friday afternoon. I know this the max they can offer on DSLAM technology of 5megs down and 800kbs up. What do you guys think ?

Update
Another call to Bell to raise my upload speed from 512 to 800 and I got another 240kbs up just for asking. They changed my profile with no questions asked, I just wonder why they just don't it in the first place ? Is it because this can save them bandwidth to the vast unsuspecting public ?

Faster NIC Detect in XP
Ok, I want to have my NIC recognized faster in XP without using its auto detect that takes forever. Logon for XP Slow
Just upgraded to XP and I noticed that when I try to logon to my ISP(PPPoE) it takes like 30-60 sec for XP to finish detecting the NIC or whatever before the logon box can be displayed, this is so annoying, any way to speed this up ??? So is this why XP is faster ? instead of detecting everything at ...

Is there a way I can speed up my download speed through MIRC or chat programs ? I'am only downloadin around 173kbps whereas through a FTP I can download at over 900kbps. Any suggestions ? My mIRC setting is already set to fast and a max of 4096bytes/sec per packet.

Well , your may concern of the CAT5 cable jacket should not be damages from lighting strikes, but you should be more worried of UV and tremperature detoriation of the PVC jacket. Standard CAT5 cables are made for interior use and not exterior. I haven't come across any CAT5 cable for exteriors use ...

Linksys and Netgear are the 2 best buys for NICs in that price catgory. They perform faster than 3Com and Intel pro NICs.
