I would opt for the 3Com 3C905C-TX or the Intel PRO/100 TX NIC.

What makes the 3COM a better card?

Will I see a performance gain on my DSL connection using the 3COM over the Linksys?

Unless your DSL connection is faster than 10mbps, or 100mbps, there won't be any significant performance improvement. I would opt for the 3Com NIC because of it's superior bus-mastering capabilities, and throughput delivery. 3Com 3C905 or 3C905C-TX are the only NIC's I use with my setup, they perform fantastic. I never fiddled around with a Linksys NIC, so I couldn't tell you if it is any good or not.

The Gateway I ordered comes with a Linksys and I have a 3COM 3C905C-TXM that I can put in. If it's not gonna help my upload or download speed I don't care which one to use.

Well.. Does the Gateway you ordered include the Linksys NIC onboard, or is it an add-on board they put in for you for a fee? If it's not on-board, then just install the 3Com you have. If it comes included for free, then take it.

The Linksys is a PCI card they install at the factory. The 3COM I have is from another computer.

So what should I do?

Easy gentlemen. And for what it is worth I work at a Gateway Country store so I won't need to worry about voiding warranties or anything like that.

All I wanted to know is if I take out the Linksys that comes with my Gateway and switch it with a 3COM 3C905C-TXM that I have in my current system am I gonna see a better performance with downloading and uploading with the 3COM and will my ping be lower with the 3COM?

You won't see any difference at all ! the Linksys NIC is actually a faster performer than the 3Com in data transfers.
