Con't......
Yep....use the "c28744288-a" or whatever you were issued for the original @home account as the hostname. Use 24.217.0.34 for the WAN DHCP server IP in the router. After you set it all up, reboot the router and cycle your cable modem, and you should be in business......And use the primary email ...

May have spoken too soon.....
Boy, oh boy.....What a difference 3 days make.
Pitiful d/l speeds of 788.....u/l is 177 (big deal)
It seems we have a "politically correct" ISP, after all. All the bandwidth suckers and service abusers are whizzed for sure. Too bad all have to suffer.....

Good work, Ken
Nice job on the lists. That, along with some edjumacation of protocols, filters, firewalls and such, has allowed me to setup my net-and-router to damn-near airtight. (NO, I'm not issuing any challenges)
Thanks again to all of you on SG......

Charter-STL feedback
I have to admit.....I was skeptical about Charter. So far, so good. I'm d/l at 1.1m and u/l at 177k. (I guess all the new users aren't on yet ;) )
I called on Thurs and was impressed by the knowledge level of the tech, and he actually seemed to be concerned about getting me up and running.

NIC Identification
I have a NIC card that I can't ID. It tries to install (under W98SE) as a NE2000 compatible but it ain't cutting it. I searched the FCC ID database and it shows as made by D-Link ( an 8EA? ) but no model # is on the card. However, it shows a P\N (part number?). Any ideas about finding a PC hardware ...

Thanks
Thanks, Jim. That's what I figured........The only concern I had was 90% of the activity was on the LAN side when I checked the router status. The firewall (Sygate) logs don't report too much out of the ordinary. I just wasn't sure.

A general guide geared towards newbies is just what the doctor ordered. I'll echo the consensus about a page separated into various topical and technical links. I, too, find myself doing lengthy search sessions to find the specific topic I need info on.......(And I usually find it here). Good idea ...

RT-314 Weird behavior
Whazupwidat?..........My data light on my Cable modem and my LNK/Internet light on my RT314 are continuously flashing....even when I'm not doing anything online. Menu 24.1 shows only Lan packet activity. It never did this until I upgraded to v3.25. What gives?

Have been to the Dells more than once.......

Filter recommendations for RT314
Once again, I beseech the great and mighty forum.......
What's the best ( and easiest ) way to configure a filter set for the RT 314? I don't run a server, FTP, or IM, etc. Just need to surf, email, and maybe have remote access (when I'm on the road) for Netmeeting and file retrieval. Any ...

Thanks, G_Code.....I've tried that with 3 different Netgear NIC's (PCIandISA). I chose Slack 'cause I have heard it has the ...
