Just got a Technics SA-616 @ 80 wpc and all I can say is wow, this thing is awesome.
Crystal clear and loud...got it hooked up to my DCM KX-212's and letting it play through my top 1000 playlist at volume #4 and can hardly breathe. I know my neighbors are hating me right now.
That seemed to be the year of great Audio equipment. I had a Yamaha R-700 back then, but living in an apartment, I could never fully appreciate what it was capable of. I also have a Technics SL-B202 Turntable. Won't maintain speed anymore, but it's still here. Some day, maybe I'll fix it just for fun.

I have a good bit of my stuff in flac and comparing to the same song in mp3 there is a noticeable difference in clarity. That being said, a properly encoded 192+ mp3 still sounds pretty damn good.
FLAC > Free Losless Audio Codec, an audio format similar to MP-3, but Lossless, meaning that audio is compressed in FLAC without any loss in quality?
Shorten (SHN) is a file format used for compressing audio data. It is a form of data compression of files and is used to losslessly compress CD-quality audio files (44.1 kHz 16-bit stereo PCM). Shorten is no longer developed and more recent lossless audio codecs such as FLAC, Monkey's Audio (APE), TTA, and WavPack (WV) have become more popular. However, Shorten is still in use by some people because there are legally-traded concert recordings in circulation that are encoded as Shorten files. Shorten files use the .SHN file extension.

Frankly, receivers have not changed much in that time, save for digital processing and surround channels. Vintage implies tube gear.

You would think so, but the "kids" of today think 80 is vintage. Heck, my new HTR has a computer in it. Self diagnostics and such. Could have used that back in vintage 80!
