D@mN Comcast

Post by vic451 »

I was switched over to comcast service last night and this morning my connection has dropped from 4000 k/bits sec tp 1300 k/bits sec . My upload went from 1500 k/bits sec to 700 k/bits sec . I called em up and they said no one else is having problems in the new hope area and my connection should be faster than it was . Then the blamed it on the routing table . They said oh no there's no cap change . They said they'll work on it and credit me . Go figure 7 months with no @home probs and comcast switches me and the minute i renew my ip to my new one it craps out . Any help or support would be great . I may switch to dsl :(

Caps on the new and improved Comast.net are 1500/128. A lot of people would kill for what you're getting.

If you're getting credits for getting those kind of speeds I would really like the number that you called to get them. :D

Whatever !My downloads suck! They range from 48 kilabytes to 100 kbytes(now) . Also comcast guarantees 2800 kbits down (50 time 56k) .I used to download always over 600 kilabytes . I have had those speeds for seven months , Believe me this new speed issue is not what i pay for at all . They also gave me the usual signal strength garbage . It's their server it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure that out . I didn't have the problem 12 hours ago and none of my settings changed .

Believe me I know what they advertised and what they said and all the rest. I was transitioned 12/29 and have had problems since. For the first two weeks I was getting <100/100 speeds. They never got my multi IPs working yet. Laundry list of other problems. And for DSL with that kind of upload you will be paying more than $60 month I imagine.

My point was sorta that you're not really having problems, it looks like you're just getting the shaft like everyone else who has been transitioned. Look around the boards, this one and the general discussion. You will see plenty of us complaining about comcast.

And for them to tell you there is no cap change is not true. Comcast.net caps are 1500/128.

Smoke and mirrors.

Greed.

Lack of culpability.

Greed.

Because they can.

No competition.

Greed.

Because.

Greed.

Two Words "up to"

And the fact that they cover every conceivable thing in their AUP and TOS documents.

Oh yeah. Greed also.

Just curious, where are you seeing that they guarentee that?

Indy it was in some of their literature before the transition. And our transition kits said SPECIFICALLY that your speeds wouldn't change. Been a huge sticking point for a lot of people. Ask UOD, but I would advise wearing a flak jacket if you do :D

>>How can they do that since they promise 2800 ?<<

We don't and never have made any promises as far as bandwidth. Also, the 'up to 50 times faster than 56K' ad campaign was with our friends @Home and has been dead for a while. Unfortunately marketing people are retarded. At one point they wanted to claim up to 150 times faster than 56K....which is rediculous. The comcast.net website says up to 1500K. Good luck finding any residential internet service that will guarantee minimum speeds.

Unfortunately, the @Home bandwidth caps (3/128k) seldom functioned with @Home. Great for customers (me included) that were running wide open, but now that the caps are working it is being perceived as poor service.

I have seen Samsung cable modems that are able to get around the bandwidth cap. I don't know why. I wouldn't go out and buy one right away, though. They'll get fixed eventually. :)

I'm pissed off about the decrease in the bandwidth cap, too. In spite of this, I'm getting much more consistent transfers than the eroded @Home network....the routing was so screwed up at the end that it was taking 28 hops for me to get to Microsoft's update server....my latency has decreased an average of 200%, too.

That's not a guarentee...& the actual wording is up to 50 times faster than a 28.8 (http://www.comcastonline.com/FAQsList.a ... tegoryID=3)

Comcast/@Home hasn't guarenteed speed for almost 2 years...the wording has always been up to, whether it be up to 100 times faster than a 28.8 or up to 50 times faster than a 28.8...it's something that would not stand in a class action lawsuit because of the way it's worded :(

28.8 x 50 = 1.440 mbit/sec

Caps are set at 1.5 mbit/sec down/128 kbit/sec up

Granted, it's ambiguous in the sense that the person reading it assumes that they are going to get that speed all the time. But the legality of the text implies no guarentee in it & assumptions hold no weight in a legal sense...

Most systems that I've tested since the switchover have been averaging about 1.2 mbit down (& thats on tweaked systems)...before the switchover, on 98% of the systems that I checked speed on, speeds were consistently around .7 mbit down. Speeds bumped up to an average of 1.6 mbit down after the appropriate speed patch was applied. (see here for a statistical breakdown that I did over a several day period to see what I'm referring to about speeds...this is pre-switchover)

*sigh*

I WISH I was getting even close to your download speeds... according to the speed tests I've run at dslreports.com and the ones listed on this site, I'm average 128 up (good) and between 220 and 400 down (*whine*). I'd be jumping for JOY if I got download speeds even CLOSE to the cap. But, it is an improvement over my pokey 56K earthlink connection... but not MUCH.

Just curious, have you tried clocking your speeds at http://www.speedtest.net and compare that with what you're getting through dsl reports?

Have you tried looking at the power levels in the diagnostics page? ( 192.168.100.1 ) Just curious to see what kind of levels you have...

I've never seen the ads for 150 times faster than 56k, but, here is the actual box lid off my Comcast self install kit.
