Threads get closed or deleted when a member insults someone directly, but it's ok for Mods.
And when a member has a differring opinion than the Mods, same thing happens.
IE:
https://www.speedguide.net/forums/ ... post447049
https://www.speedguide.net/forums/ ... adid=52012
And many other threads.
Why?
Are Mods above the rules?

No it is not okay to insult anyone. The thread that I took part in was closed and I have no idea who reopened it. I did however see a post that was directed at me and responded before Reclosing it. It was originally closed because of name calling between a few members.
The other thread was closed by someone else and if there is an issue with that I advise that you speak with the other mods or better yet Pm Philip.
Threads get closed and deleted around here in the best interest of the forum. Philip Deleted a thread yesterday and was call names by one of the members also. Again all that I can say is we do what we can to keep the forum without fights and flames.

I somewhat agree with what you have said Norm, but only somewhat. Of course, those posts you meant are subject to critical discussion. Maybe they should not have been posted.
But then, we all are human. We all make mistakes. We should not complain about each single one. I think that the mods are doing an overal good job here, so I will refrain from complaining here.

Just certain mods.
your right norm...opinions are not allowed

a good example HERE .
why was this closed? it was called "mod" bashing, but really it was me stating my opinion, just like brent does in the religious and gay threads...but that is ok, because he is mod

When Mouse said that the post in question was MOD BASHING, that was her opinion. Why is her opinion allowed but not ours?

I’d like to go with a story... but it just doesn’t feel right. Too serious in here. Time to go “thread hopping” and see what else is going on (bury that spam down deep)

People will forget what you said... and people will forget what you did... but people will never forget how you made them feel.

... and Norm, if this: https://www.speedguide.net/forums/ ... adid=52012 was posted at speedcorp it would definetly be closed and I think you would agree with me there.
The threads closed by me do not get closed because of opinions, they are closed for name calling. They also get closed for openly challenging a Moderator, If you have a problem with a mod it should be taken to philip. By publicly posting something directed to a mod it insights fights on the forum.
Philip does read all of the complaints and we are advised of our misconduct as moderators. We are not untouchable and do get reprimanded quite frequently.

I've had a couple of calls from advertising agencies in the last month asking me to remove their banners from the Discussion Forums becuse of posts like this.
SpeedGuide is for discussing technical issues, maybe some fun in the general forum, but certainly not flame wars, name calling, offensive behavior or the like.
This is a moderated board, if you want unmoderated freedom you can always go face the spam and flame storms on usenet...
All this is not directed to gmcd33, I'm saying it to all of you in general.

Are there any guidelines set by the mods as to what threads are appropriate. This one was a bit over the line in my opinion https://www.speedguide.net/forums/ ... did=52012. Maybe guidelines need to be set on what is appropriate and what isn't appropriate to post. Just a thought

Flame wars... it takes 2 or more to get the fire starting...
Sometimes I don't fully agree what some people say.... then I put in what I think... and if he comes back with a reasonable reason... sure I'd take it.. but if s/he say something insulting that's when I just don't respond no more..
Sometimes I just don't like how the mods close some of the threads... which is tottally alright... but I move on... can't always get things your way..
I'm happy the way things are..

This is my first forum board I have been on and I really enjoy it, look we all have opinions we need to respect each others opinions. I have seen some posts go over the line to where they are personal attacks. Nobody likes to get "flamed" and personal attacks should be avoided. Mods are here to make sure the petty name calling and flaming don't get out of hand. And I am all for that. Free speach is one thing calling someone names and personal attacks are another and no one want to be "flamed".

Mods can refute us, but we can't refute them?
Also should mods close threads in which they themselves have been active participents to the very end? Couldn't a mod ask another mod to review a thread they themselves would not feel compfortable editing?
