My cable is ...............
okay my dad's like, "getting new cable wires doesn't cost nothing..." BLA
I need a direct line (for cable) to the power thing... cuz I'm using the TVCable for my Cable Modem..... if u understand.
So I'll call and say that i'm really slow and i'm losing sync and get lot of packet loss? what's RG6? new type of cable wire thing? ya, my service does have new cables but my dad doesn't want to do it. he says he might take comp out of my room and put it downstairs where it used to be, in the computer room.
help again , thnx , plz

RG 6 Cable
RG 6 is what most cable company use now for digital services. I know I just had my Roadrunner up grated to digital service. It has a drop of its own. You might be better off clearing all the tweaks you put in your computer out then starting over. Try different ones from here. But run there default Patch In between each tweak that does not help. Plus back the reg up. Or use cablenuts. This way you can try different settings till you hit the ones that work for you. Not all computers will work with just one setting from one certain speed patches. I use to work for the cable company. If these tweaks don't work. You might try checking for packet loss. If so its either from their end or you have a bad line comeing in. GoodLuck and hope you can get the proublem solved.

To do this you will have to edit your registry which may sound difficult to a begginner but it is very easy. To open the registry editor go to run regedit. Once inside go to the following key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\VxD\MSTCP. To do this expand each folder revealing the other folders inside and when you reach the final folder open but do NOT expand it it will be called MSTCP. Inside there will be a string called DefaultRcvWindow if not you will have to create one(this can be done by right clicking and choosing string value be sure to name it exactly like I do). Once you found it or created it change its value to 64240

this may sound stupid but i did it b4 and it worked. i had installed soooo many tweaks and patches my DSL was running at dial-up speed. i wanted to get back to default so i did this:
when you install cablenut adjusted - it uninstalls all other tweaks you have automatically. so, if you don't have cablenut adjuster - install it. if ya already got it - go to add/remove programs, uninstall it and then reinstalll it. either way - it removes all other tweaks. then use only cablenut adjuster & speedguide tweaks.
or, if you want to keep all default settings - uninstall cablenut again.
BTW - what OS are you using ? does it have "GO BACK" feature ?
i run 98se at home and can only turn registry back 5 days but got ME at work and i screwed it all playing around & experimenting <i always try new stuff there 1st - lol> and i was able to turn the registry back 2 months to before i started messing with it and all my problems were solved.
good luck

well, nevermind about the "GO BACK" thing - i just looked back and saw where you said you had w98.
i thought of something else though, if you have your w98 disc, reinstall windows. just overlay it over current installation. i have done it many times - it is perfectly safe. you won't lose anything, but it will replace any missing or corrupted system files.

you can get cablenut at http://www.cablenut.com <software section>.
when you install it - it will remove any previously installed tweaks.
just run windows installation and it will overlay over your current installation - it doesn't remove anything. all i can tell you is that i have done it 3 or 4 times when my puter would get screwed-up and i have never lost ANYTHING. it will just repair or replace damaged or missing files.
you can also go to start> run> and type in sfc and hit o.k. this takes you to a system file check screen. configure it to replace damaged, deleted or changed files. put your disc in and start scan. it will tell you when it finds a problem file and ask you what you want to do. select restore file from disc. you have to do all the files individually so it can take a while but it does the same thing if you aren't comfortable reinstalling windows. i have done this before too and it didn't hurt anything. it may remove some updates you have installed but if it fixes your problem it is worth it - then all you have to do is reupdate the program.

listen dude - i can't make you any promises. if something goes wrong i don't want you back up in here freaking out on me. i can only tell you what has worked for me several times in the past to fix my registry <w98>. i have several games installed on my puter and reinstalling windows has never had any effect on them.
it only reinstalls the windows files. like i said in an earlier post - if you aren't comfortable with doing that you can run the sfc command and just repair your files. the reinstall is much faster and easier though.
keep in mind - i don't KNOW that this will help you at all. i don't have cable or know anything about it. i just like reading threads and when you started talking about repairing your registry i figured i would tell you what i've done before for similar problems. this may not help but i don't see how it could hurt.
