My cable is ...............

Post by Decko »

Hi,
Okay, my problem is this.. Well, let me give you an example. I go into a Internet Online game (Rainbow Six), and I see the people there warping (moving around all over the place), and they didn't do that before. Before, is when I downloaded some type of tweak, I don't know what.

Also, I upload slower now, I don't know why.

Seems like there are things missing from my registry file.

I would like to just clear everything and make it seem like how it was when I first got my comp/cable modem.

I download slower, the websites take longer to retrieve, I don't know whats wrong.

If you can PLEASE email me back, thanks.. :(

Ok i found the problem. You are going through a proxy server. This server is used by your isp to save money, but at the same time they are spying on you to see where you go on the web. The way a proxy server works is that it will cache pages viewd by other members. This way you don't have to send the request all the way to the website. To disable the Proxy server in Internet Explorer, go into Tools > Internet Options > Connections > LAN settings. Uncheck anything thats in there. If you are an @home user and installed the @home software Go into Start > Run and type: regsvr32 -u ahiehelp.dll

The reason your upload is slower because instead of going directly to where you wanna go it goes through the proxy server.

its weird

it takes slow to like.... load a website.. well ok. this is what i mean..

for example, i type in a website (mostly any one...)
and it takes 5 secs till it starts to load.
before it took like 1 not even.

and it loads, then stops for like 2-3 secs, then loads again
and pretty slow
much slower than usual

and I don't like that.

Kind of goes in tracks and frame loads and warps.. if u know what i mean.

oh boy. :(

Have you used the tweak for faster loading of web pages? Click on the last link in my sig that says Speedguide Patches. Scroll down till you see the web patch and select the one for your os.

Call @home and ask if they are having any problems with there network. Tell them that your using your dialup now and it is going faster ;) Power cycle your modem. Unplug it shut down your computer. wait about 20 seconds then plug the modem back in and turn on your computer.

OKay, but hey...............

I remember, when I first got cable like in 1998, i had it downstairs in the living room.

now its in my room (for about 1 year) and sometimes it's been sucky.

they said that it's less good up here cuz i Dunno y.

they said It would be better if they had bigger and newer lines and a newer power box and a straight connection from my room to it and stuff.... (whatever all that means...)

hmm.. should I ask them to boost my @home cable up somehow? would it work? hmmmmmm

There is way you could see up to a 500kbps speed improvement. I got my service about 4 years ago and was getting at the most 2mbps. Then about 4 months ago a dog chewed up my cable outside. so i called ATT and the guy came in about 2 hours and he replaced the cable outside and my speeds jumped up to 4mbps then i found this site and am now getting about 800KB on my file downloads. And gettting about 6-8mbps on dslreports.com speed test. Have them replace all of the cables in your house.

Wait, are you saying since this site, you're download improved?

it was 2 and 4mb, and now it's 800k/sec?

You didn't mean that you downloaded 2/4/mb/sec right?

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

I should tell them to do everything best like fix cables and stuff and not download these tweaks?

oh ya, when i went into @home/tools/netdiag this is what came up...
-------------------------------------------------------------

Registry Information:
TCP/IP Default Window Size: 372300
TCP/IP Default Window Size: 256960
TCP/IP Default TTL: 64
Tcp1323Opts: 1
Sackopts: 1

-------------------------------------------------------------

How come it has two TCP/IP Default Window Size?

Damnit, I want to clear everything out and be clean. Then re-download when the guy comes, ya know?

It's the same, I did everything.

I don't think that these type of tweaks will help me.

What I think is that I need to call a specialist.. actually, I want a hole new modem, and a new comp.

(So everything will be fresh)

Should I ask for that?

Hmm... New wires for cable/house too?

When @home comes tell them you need new cables and a new modem because you lose sync and get lots of packet loss. Thats what was happening to me and the tech put new lines and wanted to give me a cable modem but i told him i would buy my own. Your isp may not have the new cables. My provider att just recently got the RG6 about 6 months ago. The only way to get the tech to fix something is by lying to them, kinda sucks.
