Adelphia in Buffalo unreliable?????

Post by sad_cablemodem_user »

My connection stops working every 5-10 minutes, causing download, etc to fail. I have tried 4 different PC's all experiencing the same problem. I have also had my cable modem replaced.

Anyone else having this problem????

Hey!! Join the club! My Powerlink in East Amherst goes down every 10 minutes too....although its only out for like a mintue, its really annoying. I did some work with tech support today and nothing was resolved. I will continue tomorrow and hopefull will get a refund! I know of many other people in the Buffalo are that have the same problem. We should fight that stupid monopoly adelphia!! Did you read that e-mail about their upgrades? Maybe that will fix it.

I actually havn't really had any of these problems. Since maybe...October of last year, I've only had the service go down three times, each for less than a day. Overall, I've been VERY pleased with the service (although I seem to be one of the few)...BUT...

I seriously wish they'd do something about the 128k upload cap. I actually upload more than I download, and sometimes twice as much. And I can't work as efficiently if the uploads are only going at 16kb/sec.

Mo125,

Sounds like we have the same problem. The outages are only 30-60 seconds, but long enought to cause network related errors. And yes, it is really annoying. I have a constantly running ping to the gateway address assigned to me to see when I can use the network and when I have to wait. I've been fighting this issue with them since December when I had the cable modem installed.

I hope the upgrades will fix the problem, but do not have a lot of faith at this time.

What city do you live in bigjim? From what I know, this problem is only in the Western New York area. I think the upgrades should fix the problem.

Eh...I guess it would be considered a Northern NY region up by the Adirondacks in the Lake George/Glens Falls area.

Pretty new here though, been out for maybe a year, so that might have something to do with it.

It probably does. Its been around for like 4-5 years in the Western New York area and the number of users has grown so high that speeds had dropped to like an average of 5 KBps (it is the 2nd most popular isp around here behind AOL). It aslo caused connection problems. But now they are upgrading it so it is a little faster.

FIVE KB/SEC?! Depending on the server, I average anywhere between 30 and 250!

My network speeds are usually good, around 175.2 K bytes/sec. Its that network outage every 10 minutes that kills me. The outages are so consitant that it seems like it is not a overload situation.

Anyone have a clue why it is happeing? I'm going to waste the time and call their tech support again today, but I don't expect any solutions.

Same problem here...I too live in WNY. Good connection for 3-5 minutes and then I get a server time out / DNS Error and then 30 seconds later my connection is back. I too called tech help and got no resolution. I guess our only hope is the upgrade fixing these problems (scheduled to be complete in May 2001) OR switch to DSL or something...although I hear that Verizon DSL sucks too.

I originally wanted to stay with Earthlink but did not see DSL coming to my house anytime soon. It is available in my area (Williamsville) but just not to my house. I had heard that Adelphia was not the best choice, but many people I work with have it and are happy with the service. I guess that I'm in the group that gets poor service. I wish my monthly bill would reflect the poor service. Paying $40.00 for this type of service is pure robbery.

For the folks who noted above that they have this problem (intermittent conection), do you also use a Liksys Router? I do and I was told by the Adelphia tech that my router may be causing this problem.

He was probably just blowin' smoke up my...

Damn my service sucks so bad tonight.

Timeouts are now every 3-5 minutes. At this rate, I'm going to have to go back to 56k dailup.

Are your lines clean?

Voltage spikes are bad for cable modems and can knock them offline.

Tell them to check your lines from the tap to your actual modem.
