dsl battlefield 1942 disconnecting
I have dsl which I have been having problems for a long time... ...When I'm playing battlefield 1942 I get disconnected every 5 minutes or every 3 hrs...I have brought my comp to test on other dsl/cable connections no problems at all..I even brought my comp to my ISP & they had no problems with the connection to bf servers...My ISP finally came out here & the guy changed my modem from a router to a bridge...I 'm still getting disconnected from battlefield 42...When I play other games I don't get disconnected but the occasional connection problems.... My ping is 60-150.....Also my download speeds are really slow 30-45kb/s..My ISP told me they don't know what the problem is so they can't help me.....
I'm really don't know what to do so any suggestions?
MY specs:
ISP:Mobiletel Internet DSL(advertised speeds 1.5 meg dowstream/512k upstream)
OS:win xp pro
I've tried the optimizier but it didnt help , so here are my results from the analyzer :
TCP options string= 020405b401010402
MTU=1500
MTU iis fully optimized for broadband
MSS=1460
Maximum useful data in each packet=1460 ,which equals MSS
Default Receive Window(RWIN)=63888
RWIN Scaling(RFC13230=0 bits
Unscaled Receive Window=63888
RWIN is a multiple of MSS
Others values that might work well with your current MTU/MSS
513920(MSS x 44* scale factor of 8)
256960(MSS x 44* scale factor of 4)
128480(MSS x 44* scale factor of 2)
64240 (MSS x 44)
Your RcvWindow limits you to: 2555.52kbs (319.44 KBytes/s)@200ms
Your RcvWindow limits you to: 1022.208kbs(127.776KBytes/s)@ 500ms
MTU Discovery=ON
Time to live left=34 hops
TLL value is ok

I would try patching the game also maybe uninstalling and reinstalling With gamming you can't tweak your latency or ping.
It could also be when you are gamming another program is is running in the background kicking you off line. There is a free program called end it all where you could shut off all programs that are running in the background. Use end it all b4 you play the game and see if it still kicks you off.
http://home.ptd.net/~don5408/toolbox/enditall/
http://www.broadbandnuts.com/index.php?page=dslwire1 also to improve ping or latency is to do this rewirring so if you know a tech or and electrician they could help u rewire.

. Under your LAN connection - properties - general tab, uninstall all the protocols there that you do not need.
2. Open IE and select tools - internet options - connections - LAN settings, make sure NOTHING there is checked.
3. ALWAYS connect your modem via ethernet (NIC) and make sure you have the latest drivers for your NIC from the manufacturer. Set your NIC duplex mode to 10mb half duplex for Cable, for DSL it is ISP dependent unless you are using a router, if so then set it to 100mb full duplex for both Cable & DSL (the instructions are in my Help & Tips link). If you are using a router make sure you have the latest firmware.
4. Clear your temporary internet files.
5. Power cycle your modem, unplug it for atleast 15 seconds.
6. Download and update then do a scan with SpyBot 1.2 http://beam.to/spybotsd & Ad Aware 6.0 http://www.lavasoftusa.com/support/download to remove any spyware then install and update SpywareBlaster to stay spyware FREE. YOU MUST USE BOTH AD AWARE & SPYBOT TO ENSURE YOU ARE SPYWARE FREE SINCE ONE FINDS WHAT THE OTHER MISSES.
7. Make sure you do the faster web page tweak in Read1st link.
8. If you have Zone Alarm as a firewall uninstall it then visit Zonelabs.com for further instructions on removing it's left over junk.
9. Install Outpost Firewall http://www.agnitum.com/products/outpost or Sygate Firewall http://www.sygate.com/, both have FREE and Pro versions and are heads above ZA.
10. Scan for viruses with your antivirus app, if you do not have one get one IMMEDIATELY, AVG 6.0 http://www.grisoft.com/us/us_dwnl_free.php is an excellent FREE AV app.
11. Make sure you have ALL of the latest Windows Updates.

I used the settings & did a speed test .... my results were around the same as before 268kbps/412kbps.....I'm a noob so excuse me for the questions haven't been able 2 get help from my ISP...Do you think that my slow speeds are b/c of high latency??My ISP told me I should be dling at 100kbs but i hit 35kbs - 40kbs max...thanks again

I don't know anything about logging into modem.....i have a zxyel prestige 623 .........the tech put a machine on my phoneline & said everything was fine...which it isn't...Also he switched my modem from router to bridge, which did resolve some of my issues I was having (example: in games not all servers would come up on list & couldn't run teamspeak server)...I told them about my speeds a while back , but haven't heard anything in return like usual.......
This is what i would do if you want to try rewirring go ahead as much as i hate to refer people goto http://www.broandbandnuts.com private message a guy name dannjr or leave a message at the forum about rewirring.
Call ur isp find out how far are you from the central office if you are really really far that explains the speed. If you are in there range to achieve the 1500 then say fix it or i'm cancelling. If i'm assuming right ur isp is ur phone company i would have them test the line even b4 rewirring something isn't right.

ftp://ftp1.optonline.net/pub/test64 take this speed test goto start menu run type cmd then in command pormpt type tracert http://www.speedguide.net while downloading the file i want to see soemthing that and I should've ask this b4.
Also check all the phones for GooD filters and backward wiring
If you are getting lots of light clicks on the line it may be a filter

I talked to dann & plugged my modem straight into my NID these are my results from analyzer...seems to be working better but still some problems....I've ran a tracert to speedguide before i plugged into NID & the numbers were higher ... I've noticed sometimes really high on #2 listing on tracert(to isp router)Not sure about this but in tracert should it time out at 15??(tracert to speedguide)

I hope this helps, Back when i had a network everywhere routher, counter-strike would disconnect or lagg out of nowhere, sometimes it would be after 10mins and sometimes it was in 30min of playing, I bought a d-link router dl-604 series and i didnt have a problem since, im 99% sure it could be a crappy router if you use one

I'd get your modem back into router mode, protect your computer, as when running as a router, it's protecting you with a hardware firewall, NAT. If he turned off the routing function, you're now running the device only as a bridge, and your computer is unprotected from the internet, and you'll need a software firewall...which creates more of a performance hit with online games.
Have you manually updated your Punkbuster? That causes a lot of disconnect issues. http://www.punkbuster.com....go to the Battlefield section, download PBWEB.EXE and follow the directions.
How much memory does your computer have?

My ISP is just really bad ..They fixed some things but ping still jumps from 60-500..The head guy came out & couldn't figure it out.I did get them to switch it back to router ...I'm also running a gig ram ....So after 2 yrs of this my ISP cringes when I call..When this contract is up I'm switching to cable that just became available..

I would run a fresh phone wire direct from point of entry to the jack you plug the modem into, ensuring it passes well clear of any source of interference. No other phone jacks off that run. Let all other phone jacks in house remain on old leg.
Also, do you have appropriate filters on any jacks where there are phones?
I also had a problem at one point when we stuck a real elcheapo phone on one of the extension jacks, even with a filter it was causing interference on te line.
