Why would you join the military then

Post by Ghosthunter »

leave in middle of a war becuase you are against war?

Joining it means there might be a point you have to go to war no?

I dont get it? Or did they just join to get an education and take advantage of the benefits?

Seeing war up close and in thier faces may have something to do with thier decision. It ain't pretty.
Training doesn't quite give the real picture.

Also, they are "medics" trained to save lives, not take them.

it dont sound like they saw much it was right before they got deployed, sounds like they got cold feet
The two soldiers, both privates first class, notified the Army of their request on Feb. 9, the day before their Germany-based 1st Battalion, 18th Infantry Regiment deployed to Iraq, Capt. Todd Grissom said.

we had 2 people who got kicked out of basic training because they refused to shoot a weapon.

Absolutely correct.
I want to learn more and more to see as beautiful what is necessary in things; then I shall be one of those who make things beautiful. Amor fati: let that be my love henceforth! I do not want to wage war against what is ugly. I do not want to accuse; I do not even want to accuse those who accuse. Looking away shall be my only negation. And all in all and on the whole: some day I wish to be only a Yes-sayer.

90% of the time the education benifits were the reason for joining. My view is if you enlisted you do the time either under orders or in jail. Neither my wife and kids nor I looked forward to my deployment to combat, but we endured. You wear the uniform, take the oath, and do your duty bottom line.

War isn't a pretty thing, but cowardice is pretty ugly also.

If your military specialty is infantryman, you shoot people. Yes that are other ways to serve your country. Waiting until just before deployment to decide you don't agree isn't one of them. :irate:

I agree with that as well.

I don't agree with the assummtion (if there is an assummtion) that cowardice was thier reason. Thier reason may have been moral, or something else.

FEAR

maybe they made an oversight or maybe they gained a new perspective from the blood shed.

kinda sad no matter how you look at it

I was going to post a link to that thread, but the SG search results for "bullsh|t" were too numerous

sometimes you have to think outside the box to get inside the box ;).
