The problem with that is I only keep one restore point at all times. Also, this happened about a week ago, so system restore is not an option.
I didnt think getting that icon back was going to be such a task
In win98 its easy as pie

enough said, thanks.

I wonder if onboard nic's are better than PCI nic's or vice versa?
I have 1 onboard, and I have a spare SMC laying around. I wonder which woud perform better? I'm not a gamer.

Thanks Mad, but I was looking for more like facts then opinions. I want to know why? Does data not transmit as fast with USB? How does a NIC transfer faster than a USB?

just curious

I was aware that you could encrypt any folder. But how do you set a password ? I have looked high and low for this. I am not talking about disabling sharing, but actually making the C: drive password protected. NOt encrypted and NOT only available to this profile, or the "make this folder private ...

Magic Folders with encryption (128-bit). It's not free, but does work very good. You can Dl the trial version for 30days. The uninstall it and download it again. Breaching it is next to impossible so far. I will keep trying

Thanks and all for the obvious, but that's not what I am looking for. I want to only restrict access to the C: directory, not the entire computer or desktop.I thought the question was pretty straight forward, sorry if it wasn't. I now have a program that can do this. Thanks again

Hint: Unless you purchased Windows XP, and are the registered owner, don't bother. It doesn't work with WA**Z versions or cracked versions unfortunately.

Some tweaking programs and even speed patches from other sites, do not always use a multiple of MSS. What I would like to know is what is the formula they use to come up with these numbers or are they just pulling them out of the air, which I doubt. Does anyone have a link to a informative page on ...

I'm not exactly sure what "bring it on " meant either. I guess some people like to get into foolish debates over which program is the best. Kinda like my bike is better than yours. Hilarious! :D

Another quick explaination is to define how a speed test actually calculates the results. It times how fast you download a block of raw data. It then takes that time and calculates your line speed. There are many things that can interfere with this.If for some reason your browser hangs or other ...

Scan Disk for XP problem

When I schedule a disk check at next reboot, I get a error just after the disk check starts.

It says:

A disk check has been scheduled...

Cannot open volume for direct access

Then it quits, and never performs the scan disk.

Any ideas what would cause this?

You can prevent the computer from automatically restarting by right clicking on "my computer" go to the advanced tab and then startup and recovery. Uncheck "automatically restart." As for the other problems, I doubt it has anything to do with your burned CD. I run a copy of XP pro on 3 pc's and not ...

NDIS User Mode I/O Driver

This has always been in my firewall's program list, but was never very active. Now, it is constantly sending and receiving 46 bytes like every 2 seconds, and never stops. Sometimes it is more than 46, but always in even incruments. I am aware this is a NT feature, but why all of a sudden is it ...
