If you want to set a password to protect your hard drive just set a log on password that way nobody can use your pc without a password. :)

Thanks and all for the obvious, but that's not what I am looking for. I want to only restrict access to the C: directory, not the entire computer or desktop.I thought the question was pretty straight forward, sorry if it wasn't. I now have a program that can do this. Thanks again

Magic Folders with encryption (128-bit). It's not free, but does work very good. You can Dl the trial version for 30days. The uninstall it and download it again. Breaching it is next to impossible so far. I will keep trying

If you are using NTFS file system you can password protect any folder you like. :)

I was aware that you could encrypt any folder. But how do you set a password ? I have looked high and low for this. I am not talking about disabling sharing, but actually making the C: drive password protected. NOt encrypted and NOT only available to this profile, or the "make this folder private" option.
Am I not being clear? OK, let me back up a little,,, when someone clicks on the C: drive icon, I want them to have to enter a password to view and access it's contents. This computer has one profile which is a Admin, and that is how it must stay.

How? I am not talking about any of the NTFS enabled options when you right-click a folder and go to properties. PASSWORD PROTECTED!!!

One of XPHome's major flaws is that EVERY user is the admin. Using NTFS, file-level protection can be tricky in that respect. It appears that the FS is FAT32 or our friend would have had the option to set a password under the drive/folder properties>security tab

I am using NTFS and no such option exists. There is not even a security tab under the C: folder properties.

There is not a option in XP, NTFS or a FAt , to do what you are asking. I'm not sure what cyberskye is talking about, but what he's explaining is not on my machine, Im running pro with NTFS
