Wireless internet thoughts

http://www.convergenow.net has recently become available in my area. The idea of 768/768 for $67/month sounds very appealing to me, and I am considering dropping my 768/128 cable connection.
Can anyone who is using a wireless internet service offer any pros and cons... suggestions... etc. to help ...

I'm happy as hell that @Home is out of here.
My downloads are a little slower, but my uploads are doubled and my pings are under 100.
For the last 3 months with @Home, I haven't been able to get a ping under 600.

Thanks Charter

@Home switching to ATTBI petition

For any @Home users who will be switched to AT&T Broadband Internet in the near future, I found an online petition to raise the proposed upload cap of 128kbps.

It's worth a try:

Question about DSL

I recently signed up with Earthlink (1500/384), and was very disappointed with the bandwidth I was getting (700/275). So, I cancelled my account, and stuck with @Home cable.

@Home is going bankrupt, and my only cable option after November 30 will be Charter Pipeline. From everything that I have ...

I'm having the same problem with @Home. Upload and download speeds are fine, but gaming pings are ****... >600. I've tried everything too, and nothing helps.

I've been having the problem for 2 months. @Home says its because of a worm virus on their network that they can't control. They are working ...

I'm having the same problem... can't get a ping under 600.
@Home told me it was a due to a worm virus on the network that they can't get a handle on. It has been going on for 2 months now.

My personal account: Earthlink DSL vs. @Home cable

I have been an @Home subscriber for 2 years. For the first year, my connection rocked!! Then the upload cap came. I still couldn't complain much though. At 128kbps, my online gaming pings didn't suffer. I just wasn't able to distribute files through my FTP as efficiently... and I could live with ...

I'm having the same problem Jester. @Home says they have a worm virus on their network that is causing the huge pings. They don't know when the problem will be fixed. I'm switching to DSL.

the WORM @Home

I've been reading about the problems that @Home customers, including myself, are having with bandwidth and online game latencies for the past month.

It seems they are blaming it all on a worm virus that has infected the network, and they have no idea how to get a handle on it. All they are doing is ...

Gaming with Earthlink DSL

I'm curious about Earthlink's pings for online gaming. Are there any other midwesterners with Earthlink that can tell me what they have experienced??

Thanks

That's interesting about Covad. I also called them. They wanted $89.99/month for the 1.5/384 package... and there was a $275 install charge.

I am in Illinois also, so hopefully my connection will be like Brets!!

Thanks for the replies.

The question is, WILL @Home EVER get their **** straight??... or will the problems just continue indefinately.

Now may be a good time to jump ship. I, for one, am fed up.

Earthlink DSL

Anyone have any opinions, good or bad, about Earthlink. I have checked out their packages, and one in particular interests me:

1.5MB down/384KB up
$49.95 per month with 1 year commitment
free installation/modem/activation

They have also agreed to give me a week trial period, and if I am not happy ...

I'm having the EXACT same problem... for the past 2 weeks my gaming pings have been over 600, when they used to be under 150. @Home tech support is worthless... they can't give me any answers other than, "Sorry... we don't support online gaming".

My lights flash constantly, too. But they did before ...

Frustrated gamer... advise needed

I have had a 1.5MB/128kb cable connection (@Home) for the last 2+ years. I do alot of online gaming, and typically have pings between 100-150. 2 weeks ago, my pings drastically worsenned. Ever since then, I haven't been able to get a ping under 600 on servers that I typically get <150 to.

My first ...
