I can't imagine it would help. The data still has to go through the modem, so you'd still get the packet loss you had before. If you get a good router, things should stay the same. If you get a cheap router, it may slow things down.

Where can I find this pic?

I saw a picture online not too long ago. It was a computer mouse with a woman's hand on it, and somehow it looked really dirty, like the woman was touching herself, but it was only the mouse. If anyone has the pic, or a link to it, I'd appreciate it.

I think they're going off the assumption that the coins are fair. Most math and statistics problems do. Theoretically, out of 20 tosses, you'd get 10 of each. So heads:tails would be 10:10, or you can reduce it to 1:1. In English, that basically means for every head you get, you'd get one tail ...

I think we pay $39.95 for 512/128 kbps

To go from mega- to kilo-, multiply by 1000. To go from bits to bytes, divide by 8. This works for connection speeds, like megabits per sec, kilobytes per sec, etc. as well as file sizes. So to go from 2 Mbps to kBps, multiply by 1000 and then divide by 8, or ...

Aside from the quality issues, the USB NIC should theoretically be fine, since most cable and DSL modems only have a 10 Mbps connection on the LAN side anyway, and furthermore, the fastest connection you'll get on them will probably be significantly less than the 10 Mbps. That means that you should ...
