Set your NIC to 10/half-duplex.

The other fellow with two NICS and using ICS may be another issue ....

Some things to try to troubleshoot your problem:

1) ensure that in Internet Options -> Connections -> Lan Settings, you do NOT have proxy server, auto detect settings, or auto config script checked off ... uncheck them.

2) change nic to 10/half-duplex

3) ensure pc is direct to modem (no hub ...

Two things you can try:

1) unplug the power cord for the modem and unscrew the co-ax cable wire from it and leave it like that for a full 30 minutes. Plug the co-ax wire back in and then the power cord.

2) if step #1 fails then call your ISP tech support up and ask them to delete the ARP entry off ...

You are probably only paying for one ip for your cable Internet service. Your other pc needs a different client ID for it to work.

gychang,

you mention you lose connectivity every 20-40 minutes, so if you are surfing the Net for 3 hours I assume this happens at least 3-4 times during that time period on a daily basis consistently? That really sucks!

Okay, try one more thing: next time you lose connectivity, click start -> run ...

Yours is an individual problem as other users in the Richmond, BC area have pretty fast speeds well past 100KBytes/sec and even 200+KB/sec!

First ensure your computer settings are actually optimized for broadband and not dial-up connection by using that TCP/IP Analyzer Tool: http://forums ...

Was it only large streaming videos or regular file downloads?

Two more things you can try:

- set your NIC to 10/half-duplex

- dedicate some RAM to your NIC's IRQ by adding that tweak in your SYSTEM.INI file

Firstly does pressing the Refresh button load the page up? Sometimes the page doesn't come up quickly on the first attempt.

Assuming it still takes forever to load the page even after pressing Refresh, you might want to go to your Internet Options and unchecking any Auto-Script or Auto-Config ...

Remo's fix sounds more like a fix for DSL as you cannot enter a 192.x.x.x IP for a cable DHCP setup!

Westy: since you can get back online after your disconnect by renewing ip's using winipcfg (without you having to powercycle the cable modem) then it's probably not the cable modem causing the ...

This is a modem problem or possibly a bad power supply adapter for your modem. Either way you need a cable tech out on a truck roll to fix the problem.

Your sarcastic email to your ISP will not expedite the truck roll request either!

First see if you can ping out. Find out your gateway/router ip that you connect to by using the 'ipconfig' command. If you can ping the gateway that means you have connectivity (somewhat). If this fails try a loop-back ping test 'ping 127.0.0.1'. If your loop-back ping test fails (unlikely if they ...
