Working on DW's laptop: Toshiba Satellite M45
Was getting irregular problems and changed HD
Installed XP Prof on new HD
On bootup BIOS apparently can't boot from the HD so it tries LAN, finds none and says a cable is loose (E-61). BIOS tells me the identity of the HD and its IRQ. Was able to install ...

Hardware/software/recovery question
Computer: Toshiba M45-S2692
I replaced the HD and want to reinstall Windows XP. When I boot from the XP disk it requires an original Windows 98, 95, ME, etc disk for validation since I have only a XP upgrade disk. If I use my Toshiba Recovery disk for validation it tells me it can't read the CD. My ...

Thanks to all who shared their expertise on my problem.

Woes improving a bit
try booting from the XP disk and run a repair to the command console.. type in fixboot, then run a chkdsk /r
That may kick you out of the reboot loop...
Thanks for the several suggestions. I really appreciate you all taking the time to make them. I've been able to boot from the XP disk, but ...

XP Woes
My computer (xp home) was acting up so I did a dskchk; it said the check would begin at next bootup. It did, but it's locked into a loop doing disk checks and I can't stop it. If I "press any key" to stop disk check it ignores me. If I turn off the power switch and do a cold boot it begins to load ...

Fonts screwey
I'm sure there's an obvious solution, but I can't see it.
One day all my fonts changed into a really crummy mess with some letters in bold and others not. The loops on "d" and "p" don't even meet to close the circle. This shows up in Word documents, Internet web sites, and email. The stuff on my ...

Help! XP taking 15 min to load!
I apologize for asking a simple question, but here it is:
DW's computer (Toshiba notebook) running XP Home has started taking 15 min or more to load Windows XP. It loads up to the wallpaper screen, but shows no icons on desktop, no Start button, just a pretty picture for about 15 min. Then it loads ...

USB to Parallel
Got a nice new computer but it has no parallel port. I tried Belkin's USB to Parallel cable but Vista can't see the printer on the other end. It's an old (but reliable) HP Deskjet 4L. Vista has the driver for the 4L and installs that but still no communication.

Most side effects show up early and diminish as your body becomes accustomed to the medication, so the fact that you haven't had them likely means you won't. You're exactly right about worrying about effects being connected with OCD; the disorder almost protects itself from being cured!

Upgrading to new HD
I'm sure this has been convered before, but I can't find it with a Search, so please excuse a repeat:

Will this work?

I hear clearly that you can connect your laptop to your cell phone, but what SOFTWARE do I need to get them to recognize each other? SnapSync wants $30 for theirs and I already have the USB cable. By the way, I have the Verizon 4400 you keep talking about and haven't a clue how to hack it.

Disappearing Outlook
For the second time in a month, Microsoft Outlook has just disappeared from my computer. Aside from how this happens, how do I get it back? Does it come with Office, Windows, or where? I can't find any place on the Microsoft web site to download it. Any help appreciated.

I installed a new HD and want to make it my main drive and use the older one for backups. I want to clone the old drive rather than install everything from scratch. I used a utility (xxcopy for my D: and E: partitions and WD's copy utility for my C: (boot)) to copy the old drive to the new. I then ...

When I'm on any web site for a couple of minutes, Explorer freezes up and I have to do Alt-Ctrl-Del to end it. It's just learned this trick this week. I used the Repair Files option in the program to try to make it stop, but that didn't do any good.
