New boot drive
I installed a new HD and want to make it my main drive and use the older one for backups. I want to clone the old drive rather than install everything from scratch. I used a utility (xxcopy for my D: and E: partitions and WD's copy utility for my C: (boot)) to copy the old drive to the new. I then disconnected the old drive, made the new one the Master, and rebooted. My computer can't find the system on the new drive to boot up. What else do I need to do?

Don't have XP installed anymore , went back to 98 .
Not sure about the 98 boot disk .
Try this .
Start up with your Boot disc or Startup disk in ( without cd rom support )
At the A: prompt , type , sys c: and then press ENTER.
Take out the boot disk and then "Repair" XP by booting from the XP CD and selecting Install > Repair (NOT recovery console) > Fast Repair.
