The max I get on speedtests is about 1.7mb

Well my ten days is up, and my bt speed tester results are still

IP profile for your line is - 2000 kbps
DSL connection rate: 448 kbps(UP-STREAM) 7680 kbps(DOWN-STREAM)
Actual IP throughput achieved during the test was - 1807 kbps

Adsl status page says -

Downstream Speed 8128 Kbps
Upstream Speed 448 Kbps

But I'm guessing thats not my actual speed, but what my line/exchange should be able to handle.

This is after setting mtu to 1492 on router, no sign of mss setting, and no mention of it in routers manual.

Yes, using a zoom 5560a router.

edit : mtu on there is defaulted to 1500 as I remember.

Thunderstorm seasons over here in UK, I cant afford a UPS, but I did get an 5 socket surge protector that also has in/out for phoneline to go through it, its a great peace of mind.

I recently upgraded my service from 2mb to 8mb max, on the day it was meant to upgrade, I rebooted router, no speed change, so tried every hour or two for next day, still no change.

Rang pipex up, and got through to 2nd line support, he told me it was a BT problem and would be fixed by next day as ...

winamp in kerio win route problem.

It just wont connect to anything via shoutcast, and ive tried them with the firewall disabled.

I've allowed 8000-8001 for both tcp and udp.

Anyone know any other reasons?

edit : If I stop the firewall and let it connect and then restart the firewall service it works, not really an ideal ...

It will go as fast as the slowest point on the network between you and who you are downloading from.

So if the the wirless is getting a good signal and everything is setup nicely, on adsl you should be able to expect about 80% of your advertised speed.

I'm on 2mb adsl and my speedtests are about ...

Zoom x3 ip address blocking.

Is there anyway I can block a ip address completely from accepting comms from one ip address?

The reason I ask is sygate pretty often uses active response on one ip, the same ip keeps recurring.

As sygate is already stopping the threat is there any benefit of doing it from the router itself?

Thanks once again trogers, I found out the problem with that other connection a few nights ago (the 4mb running at 0.1mb), I hadnt checked for 'dumb girlfriend error', she hadnt paid the bill so they had capped it! lol

I got this result from the thinkbroadband.com speedtest.

Speed Down 127.39 Kbps ( 0.1 Mbps )

Its been like this for a few days now, anyone got any ideas?

Hi, great forum, and I've been playing with the optimiser, though I think I may have borked my settings.

Ok heres my current settings.

adsl PPPoE behind a zoomadsl router with latest firmware and ethernet adapter has latest drivers.

Pipex 1000/256

(TCP Optimizer reports my mtu as 1492 not 1460 ...
