Thanks for the update. You're right, it's usually proxy or firewall settings that prevent the connection.
Hmm... this has come back again. Any ideas as I'm not behind a Proxy any more and the page will not load (at all). I have a secure client on this machine which has its own firewall so I'm not ...

Do I need a switch or a hub?
Hi, I am relatively new to networking and need a little advice.
I use a ZyXel 662hw ADSL router and it's fitted with four ethernet ports, one of which is a fixed DMZ. I now have the need to have more than just three firewalled ports and there is no firmware solution to have the fourth port ...

TCP Analyser Page will not show
I am trying to log into the analyser page this morning and all I'm getting as a return is >!, that's it. Port 8080 is ok on other pages so I'm not sure what is going on here?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Neil

BTW - a port is only 'open' if there is a server (like http, dns, mail, etc) listening on that port - the stealth bit just means that your router will not respond to requests - it may forward them to a server, but pings will not generate a response, for example.

Skype through ZyXEL firewall.....why stealthed?
Hi,
I need to allow Skype to work through our firewall however there seems to be a problem with the rule I have set up.
The rule is from 'WAN to LAN', externally 'any IP' to internally a fixed IP on a high numbered port (TCP). Skype seems to be working but if I do a port scan with GRC.COM it comes ...

Thanks for that, it's definitely an improvement but no matter what I do it will not change the MTU value back to 1500. It was set at that rate a few days ago but after running the optimiser it now seems locked at 1496.
Weird thing is that there doesn't seem to be any way to change it on the router ...

Optimiser sets differently from the tweaking guide..why?
I've found this excellent site and have started to tweak/break (delete as applicable) my DSL connection. However I've noticed that the following entries to the registry are set by the TCP Optimiser at a completely different level than suggested in the 'sticky' Tips on Tweaking Guide:
DnsPriority ...

Have a look at ZyXEL (www.zyxel.com) routers, they have a lot more features on the firewall than most 'home' targetted routers and should do what you need plus a load of other stuff.

Pipex 2Mb DSL PPPoA connection help
Hi,
I've tried running the IP Optimiser with the options set below, however when I originally installed it seem to set the max speed at 3Mb when my connection is 2Mb, at 3 and 2.5Mb it sets the MTU to 1500 whereas with the current 2Mb it sets to 1496 and the RWIN value now doesn't seem to line up ...
