I think you can pick up a 2000-2005 Silverado (stay away from 1999, and run from anything earlier) in that range that hasn't been abused. I've been in charge of maintenance of a couple of decent size fleets, and Chevy has proven to be slightly more reliable in the long haul than the Fords.

I had Directv for a year with no phone line, 3 sat boxes and no issues. Order pay-per-view with your pc, if you like. There was a time (don't know if it's still the case) when the phone was used to upload ppv information to them for billing purposes.

So your problem is with the bailout, which is a reasonable debate. I'll leave that to the economic professors.

Corporate compensation packages rely heavily on bonus payouts, not always tied to company performance. The lump sum payment is a way of deferring salary in a great many cases. Though not on the same scale, my standard of living is reliant on this year end check.

What's not to like? We watch 2 or 3 discs/week and stream a couple of hours a week for $18 month.

Compared to satellite or cable, it's a bargain.
