"Disk Cleanup" not going anywhere?

Post by Humboldt »

XP Pro, P4, Asus P4P800

Trying to run disk cleanup before I defrag.

It begins running but just stays about 3 progress bars into the cleanup:

"Calculating...
Scanning: compress old files"

Cpu utilization stays pegged at 100% even with folding off.
Have run error check, thorough, in safe mode.

Any ideas appreciated.

Thanks

Not at all...but I 'm not sure if I found the key per se or just the folder it was in...not used to any registry lingo.

Just followed the MS directions from their database and deleted the entry for software/MS/something/compressed folders and it rewrote it upon reboot...I can find the site again if you're interested.

No problems at all now.

This is another similar article in their knowledge base but not the same one:

http://support.microsoft.com/default.as ... -us;812248

basically the same in the long run.
